The long road back

Tuesday (three weeks ago): 3 miles
Tuesday(two weeks ago): 3 miles
Wednesday (yesterday): 3 miles

I am finding the road back to running a difficult one. The problem with injuries is that you're forced to take a break from running and you quickly lose not only your fitness, but also the desire to run. Coming home from work and playing on the computer or reading a book becomes the normal routine. Then I get hungry, so I might as well eat dinner and then running is out of the question. And the cycle repeats itself and I find myself running once a week and even that is an effort.

But sometimes the effort is worth dragging yourself out the door. Yesterday I had a pretty rough, confusing, and long day at work. As soon as I got in my car, I thought about how much I wanted to go running to clear my head. Not to forget my day, but just so I could be outside. I could picture myself pumping my arms and hear my labored breathing. And so when I got home, I played on the computer for ten minutes and then I put on my running clothes and went for a three mile run. It was a great run. I ran fast and slow, I pumped my arms in different rhythms, and I felt sweat trickle down my face. It was everything I imagined it could be.
